Redefined: Life Stories

Connecting to the inside

Redefined: Life Stories is a project to create art as a unique bridge between women serving extended sentences in Ohio Reformatory for Women and the outside community. Storytelling through both video interviews and interactive artwork will exhibit alongside portraits of the women to convey the complexity and dimensionality of each person.

The hope of this project is to restore each woman’s view of their personal value as well as elevate their presence as citizens of the community despite their separation by incarceration. The artwork invites viewers to see incarceration and the incarcerated in a new empathetic light.

Every week Kirsta leads the women in mindful art-making sessions that explore their strengths and identity. These pieces will be exhibited alongside the portraits and videos in 2024.
